QuickTime® Media Playback Issues with QuickTime 7.6.4

Symptoms

Systems running Windows® or Mac® OS® X 10.5 and earlier with QuickTime 7.6.4 may experience the following during playback of QuickTime media:

  • Loss of video
  • Playback of audio only

NOTE: Systems running Mac OS X 10.5 or earlier and using the Apple® Safari® web browser are not affected by this issue.
 

 

Cause

This issue has been acknowledged by Apple and is a known QuickTime 7.6.4 issue. This issue is not limited to SAFARI Montage and impacts QuickTime media playback via Apple’s QuickTime browser plug-in. Apple is currently working to correct this issue and is expected to release a QuickTime software update.

Solution

SAFARI Montage 3.2.x or later
Change the video player preference to the SAFARI Montage Media Player, which is unaffected by this issue, regardless of whether QuickTime 7.6.4 is installed.

SAFARI Montage 3.1.x or earlier
Revert to QuickTime 7.6 until Apple updates QuickTime to resolve this issue.
